Community Preservation Act Phone Bank

October 4, 2012 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Vote Yes on Question 4 to Invest in Somerville this November 6!

This ballet question is an exciting opportunity for Somerville to benefit from state support for parks and recreation space, affordable housing opportunities, and historic preservation initiatives. Through a property tax surcharge of 1.5%, the city will create a preservation trust and our local funds will be increased through the state matching program. Already148 communities across the Commonwealth already have access to these funds  – and Somerville should, too! Due to a change in the state legislation, the funds can now cover renovation of parks and recreation space–so making the Growing Center Master Plan become a reality might be just a bit easier. So, hopefully you are planning to vote Yes on Question 4 to adopt the Community Preservation Act. Visit the website for Invest in Somerville to learn more.

But we need YOUR help of this to become a reality! The Mayor and the Board of Aldermen did the work to get it on the ballot–now we need to get the votes.

Please join us Thursday, October 4th, between 5:30 and 8pm. We will review the details of Question 4 – the Community Preservation Act, have a brief campaign training, and for those who are interested and have time, start putting it to good use by making calls! This is a great opportunity to learn about the issue. And hopefully after this training you can help spread the word about the benefits of this act so that we can guarantee a Yes on 4! Future opportunities include outreach at the Farmers Market and community events such as the Growing Center Harvest Fair on Oct 6th! There will also be more chances to make calls or hold signs. The campaign is striving to reach out to voters who have a commitment to the issues supported by Question 4. Thank you for giving some portion of your time to this effort as a supporter of open space and recreation initiatives in the City!
