The Way of the Maple Workshop

Details: Explore with us the life of maple species: their life process, their ecological function, their importance for plants and animals (including us, one of the animal species relying upon them), and how they help scientists assess climate change effects on our region. You’ll also learn how to document their seasonal developmental phases (known as phenology) to support conservation programs and local and national scientific studies. This workshop is part of our Maple Syrup Project leading up to the Maple Boil Down.

Date & Location: Saturday, March 18th, 10-11:30am at 22 Vinal Ave, Somerville (The Somerville Growing Center)

Presenter: Claire O’Neill (Earthwise Aware). Claire O’Neill is the founder of Earthwise Aware (EwA) and the director of its Biodiversity & Climate Participatory Science program. This initiative connects the public with its immediate natural systems and empowers communities. EwA is known locally for its democratization of ecological science through experiences focused on place-based urban wildlife, natural history, and the conservation of species interactions in their natural habitat.
