How to Get Involved With the Farm
South St. Farm is located at 138 South St., Somerville. Visitors are welcome to stop by the farm anytime! This is an open community space for our neighbors to take a walk, enjoy their lunch, and see what we’re growing. We are on-site regularly from Monday - Friday during the growing season (May - September).
We have multiple opportunities to volunteer at the farm, especially during the growing season (May - October). Check out the links below to learn more!
Community Gardens
Beginning in 2025, the farm also hosts 13 new community garden plots for gardeners of Somerville’s most vulnerable communities, providing education and equipment to empower gardeners to grow food for themselves and their families.
GWS pioneered this successful program with the Somerville Office of Immigrant Affairs (SOIA) to transform an underutilized part of South St. Farm into a multicultural, multilingual, multigenerational community garden. Together, partners opened the garden for free to SOIA clients looking for space to grow food that is culturally relevant to them and often difficult to find in grocery stores.
Through creating an inviting, inclusive, multilingual, multi-generational (gardeners range in age from 16-65, and many also bring their families to the garden), and culturally responsive space at South Street Farm, GWS is able to reach those most vulnerable in frontline communities and provide them with the information and resources needed to strengthen food and climate resilience.
